IN AND FOR PASCO AND PINELLAS COUNTIES, FLORIDA

ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO. PA/PI-CIR-97-46 S0597046

Section 394.4598 (3) and (4), Fla. Stat., requires that prior to a guardian advocate exercising authority, the guardian advocate must attend a training course approved by the Court; and

The training course for the guardian advocate must be developed by the Florida Department of Children & Families and approved by the Chief Judge of the circuit; and

The Florida Department of Children and Families has developed a 127-page Guardian Advocate Training & Resource Manual;

Now therefore, it is

ORDERED:

1. The Guardian Advocate Training & Resource Manual developed by the Florida Department of Children & Families contains the information required by Section 394.4598(3), Fla. Stat., and is therefore approved as the Guardian Advocate Training Course for the Sixth Judicial Circuit.

2. Self-teaching is the approved method for this training course.

3. Any guardian advocate providing services in the Sixth Judicial Circuit must complete the training course as directed by the manual.

4. Any guardian advocate completing the Guardian Advocate Training Course shall file an original or copy of a certificate of compliance in the patient’s Baker Act file in a form consistent with the attached Certificate of Compliance.

5. The approved training manual is available at the Florida Department of Children & Families and at the designated receiving facilities on the attached list. The list may be amended with the approval of the Chief Judge or his or her designee.
